From barbershop beginnings to global acclaim, Semi-Toned has become one of the UK’s most electrifying A Cappella groups. Formed in 2010 by five friends at the University of Exeter, the group has evolved into a powerhouse of vocal talent, blending tight harmonies, bold choreography, and a signature sense of humour.
Semi-Toned consistently ranks among the best at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) – the competition that inspired Pitch Perfect. In 2015, they won The Voice Festival UK, taking home the award for Outstanding Arrangement for their hit track Rich Man, later released as a music video and single on their EP Sing Theory. Their star continued to rise as they won BBC2’s The Choir: Gareth’s Best in Britain in 2016 and became finalists on Sky One’s Sing: Ultimate A Cappella just a year later.
Beyond the competition stage, Semi-Toned has taken their unforgettable performances worldwide. They have toured the U.S. four times, performed a critically acclaimed UK-wide tour in 2019, and are a 10-time Edinburgh Fringe Festival favourite, earning countless five-star reviews and sell out performances. They also remain the only A Cappella group to ever win a Bobby Award from Broadway Baby.
